Swedish Scholarships Funding Announcement – $29.9 Million Dollars?
This is an important development! Just a short time ago, the Swedish government has announced that Swedish government has announced that some $2.9 million in international student scholarship funding is going into place.
This money will be used to help offset tuition fees charged to students from developing countries who want to study at Swedish universities.
The Education Minister said, “The quality of our university programmes increase when successful international students participate,”
“Scholarships is a way to attract talented students.”
Starting with the 2011-2012 academic year, students from outside of the European Union can no longer study for free at Swedish universities.
To help offset the costs for talented students as well as those from developing countries, the government also created scholarships totaling 90 million kronor.
Currently, two thirds of the funds originally set aside for scholarships are disbursed through individual universities.
The remaining 30 million kronor (abour $5Million) are managed by the Swedish Institute as part of a general scholarship fund for students from countries listed by the Organisation for Economic Co-
operation and Development as countries in need of foreign aid.
But according to the government’s new spending proposal, the general scholarship fund for students from developing countries would rise to 50 million kronor, a funding increase of 60 percent.
“Through more scholarships we contribute to the increase of the capacity to face economical, political and social challenges in these countries,” Minister for International Development Cooperation,
Gunilla Carlsson said in a statement.
If you want to study in Sweden whether you’re from Africa, Asia, the USA or some other part of the world – you can still apply for scholarships. All is not lost with the new tuition fee change.

RONALD McDONALD SCHOLARSHIP
Students across the country work hard to earn top marks; they dream of the college they'll attend and the education they'll receive.
Unfortunately, many of those students can’t afford to get the education of their dreams. We want these students to reach their full potential. To help them accomplish this, our network of U.S. Chapters, along with RMHC Global, offer scholarships to students in financial need who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership and community involvement. Since 1985, more than $40 million in scholarships have been awarded.
Scholarships are for students in the United States living in areas where there are participating local Chapters.
Please note that not all Chapters offer all four scholarships below. To view a complete list of participating RMHC Chapters, their respective counties and the scholarships they offer, please click here.
Students may only apply for one of the four scholarships. Students may download one of the applications below or apply online by clicking here.
